After three seasons piloting a Ford Fiesta R2 in the Norwegian 2WD Championship, Larsen Motorsport is happy to announce that Frank Tore Larsen and co-driver Torstein Eriksen will run at the head of the four-wheel drive category next season. The first Ford Fiesta R5 is expected to Norway in December, and the pairing can’t wait to get behind the wheel of M-Sport’s latest model.
When the Norwegian season begins in January, Larsen will line up in one of the best and most exciting new rally cars. Following a lot of hard work this autumn, the Norwegians are pleased to present their plans for 2014 – their hard work resulting in a major investment with a brand new car. Similar in character to the record-breaking, top-level Ford Fiesta RS WRC, the Fiesta R5 boasts a 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine with just under 300 horsepower.
The all-new Fiesta R5 is the latest rally car developed by the United Kingdom’s premier rally team, M-Sport. The car made its competitive debut this summer and has already amassed huge interest and a vast amount of orders. At the most recent FIA World Rally Championship event in Spain, no fewer than eight Fiesta R5 lined up for the start; a number which is increasing with each new event.
Junior Team Norway driver Larsen will focus fully on the Norwegian Rally Championship in 2014 and is aware that he and Eriksen will drive fewer rallies than previous seasons. But in his first season with traction on all four wheels, it’s not difficult to prioritise fewer rallies in order to make it into the top class.
“There are countless hours of work behind this initiative and I want to show that anything is possible if you are willing to sacrifice everything to follow your dreams. For me this is a big step in the right direction and for a long time, my goal has been to compete at the top level in Norway,” said Larsen.
Larsen Motorsport will continue their partnership with Adapta Motorsport in 2014 – using the team’s expertise to best affect. Both parties will be hoping that their new four-wheel drive machine brings further progress in terms of both drivers and mechanics.
“I’m really looking forward to this! After a while in the same car [the Fiesta R2] I think it was important for Frank Tore and me to embark on a new challenge. I actually also believe that this car can contribute to public awareness in terms of the championship rallies in this country,” smiles Eriksen.
The first championship round in 2014 is Sigdalsrally on 11th January – a rally which is considered to be the “home rally” for the Fiesta boys from Steinberg. Work is on-going with the budget and schedule for 2014 and Larsen Motorsport is set to announce further details following the delivery of their Fiesta R5.
